Description: You are bidding on the 89th cover of a set of 100 first day covers containing stamps issued in the Marshall Islands commemorating the 50th anniversaries of the 100 most significant events starting with the invasion of Poland and ending up with the end of World War II on VJ day, September 2, 1945. This 89th cover depicts the 50th Anniversary of the Taking of the Remagen Bridge on March 7, 1945. On that day, a detachment of the American 9th Division captured the incredible intact bridge spanning the Rhine River before the town of Remagen, Germany. The cover is dual cancelled from Majuro proper on March 7, 1995, 50 years after the taking of the bridge. The cover bears one 32 cent “Remagen Bridge Taken by U.S. Forces 1945” stamp. The stamp has an inscription by General Omar Bradley as follows: “This will bust ‘em wide open. Shove everything you can across!” The cover is signed by Sailass Andrike, Director of Post for the Republic of the Marshall Islands. The creator of the cover is also a member of the American Philatelic Society. This is a beautiful and unique cover to own and one of a limited edition.
