Description: Offered here is a unique WMF German/Austrian Art Nouveau-era Silver Plate Pitcher. The ewer is 13-3/4 inches tall including the handle and measures 8 inches from the tip of the handle to the tip of the spout. The base is 6 inches in diameter. This is silver plate over what appears to be brass; some of the base metal shows through the plating and almost gives it a gilded appearance. Adding to its appeal is an unusual texturing on the body of the pitcher -- what appear to be tiny hammer strikes scattered throughout. I've not seen this unusual finish before. The design on the front appears to mimic a coat of arms, with a lion/dragon overlaid on a knight's armor. A very medieval appearance. Others more knowledgeable may be able to offer more information. The mark on the bottom is the second of the three ostrich marks, in the full arch, likely placing its manufacture between 1909 and 1914. Pictures were taken both inside and in outside lighting to clearly represent the piece. Please examine closely for detail and as always please feel free to ask any questions.
