Description: William Butler Yeats, (1865-1939), author of "The Second Coming" is acknowledged as one of the most important writers in the English language. This unique image is the last known photograph of Yeats and the only one extant of Yeats near the end of his life wearing an eyepatch. Described by Mary M. Colum in her memoir, this photo is a posed portrait of Yeats in 1938 as his health deteriorated, in the final months of his life. This is an original sepia photograph, no known prior publication, backed with paper and showing signs of being removed from a board background (see reverse side in photo). Photo is in good condition, 8" x 6" with no loss of image, no creases, folds or tears, shows a single, very minor,10mm light stain on surface. Photo was obtained from an estate in eastern Canada.
