Description: Vintage Tilt Top Candlestick Table Stand by Paine Furniture, Boston Mass, Painted Colonial Style with Willow Tree Design, Rare Find We are offering here a lovely, elegant and functional table, painted black with a Colonial style gold willow tree on it's surface.I love furniture like this, because you can leave the top folded down when not in use, and it stores easily while looking decorative and then you can flip it up when you need a side table for books, drinks or an extra space during the holidays! Made by (and hallmarked) Paine Furniture Co., Boston (established 1835-1989) Founder was Leonard Shearer. Originally known as Shearer & Paine Furniture, Shearer was in business with John Paine who was a cabinetmaker. Together they became a popular interior design firm and retail furniture store in Boston for more than a century.Located in a ten-story building constructed in 1914 in the Classical Revival style, it was designed to house the showrooms, offices, and manufacturing facilities of the Paine Furniture Company, (which was what it became called after Shearer passed away) at one time the largest furniture company in New England. The company sold the building in 1989. The building still exists and has been added to the National Register of Historic Places in 2002.
