A one of a kind older vintage hand carved wooden figure of a prisoner, marching, wearing red and black striped prison uniform. Not sure if it is prison art but sure appears to be. Primitive naive folk art. Purchased in the early 1980's at the Brooklyn Historical Society Giftshop in Brooklyn. In those days the giftshop was a real gem having antique and older vintage unique items. The buyer for the shop said this was a prison art carving. He would have held something in his rt. hand, a flag or shovel perhaps if he was on a work crew. His left foot was loose at base when he was bought and when examining you can see some glue, not very obvious. Terrific painting, all original with no overpainting. Small spot of silver paint at bottom of 1 pant leg. This is a lightweight carving. Measures approx. 6-1/4" t., base approx. 1-3/4" x 3". Beautiful pre-owned older vintage condition. Missing something in his rt. hand, couple of paint dings on his upper left front area. Base has a gouge in it which would have occurred in the making it appears. Overall terrific condition.
