Vintage Bamboo Fly Rod – Rebuilt and Modernized

Description: Tatara Modern Classics proudly presents a meticulously rebuilt and upgraded Vintage Montague Sunbeam bamboo fly rod (3 piece, 9 foot). This rod delivers exceptional casting performance, best suited for a 6-weight floating (WF) or 7-weight double taper (DT) line, making it an excellent choice for targeting larger trout, bass, carp, and other similar species. Each component of this rod has been skillfully restored and modernized by Mr. Tatara. The foundation of this build comes from a 1950s Montague Sunbeam, carefully stripped of its original finish (done entirely by hand, with no chemicals used). The blank was then hand-finished with 12 layers of high-quality true oil, resulting in a smooth, durable finish. To complete the restoration, the rod was given a semi-matt sheen, polished by hand using rotten stone. The original ferrules remain intact, with beeswax applied to the male ferrules for added protection. This beeswax can be easily removed if preferred. All other hardware has been replaced, featuring custom gold-colored guides from Proof Fly Fishing and an Atlas Downlocking Reel Seat with a beautifully crafted Maple insert. The rods grip is a unique blend of new cork, topped with hand-wrapped rattan, which has been toasted to a rich, golden hue. Each of the rod's wraps is carefully executed by hand using #100 kimono silk thread, color-locked, and sealed with five layers of Man O War spar varnish, ensuring long-lasting durability and a refined finish.
