Concave parts are knurled, convex parts are smooth. The ring is wide, the stroke is soft - it’s convenient to use. The full stroke of the helicoid is about 270 degrees. The stroke is long, which is very convenient when focusing at portrait distances. Actually, Jupiter-9 deservedly bears the status of a classic Soviet portrait painter. There are two aperture rings. They are located close to each other. The one farthest from the camera is responsible for pre-setting the aperture. The scale with values is just for him! This scale is actually printed on the ring. The ring is a little closer - it serves so that the photographer can quickly close the aperture from the fully open position (at which the frame is composed) to closed as much as it was previously set. The diaphragm consists of 15 blades. At any aperture value they form perfectly smooth circles. This is also an indispensable property of Jupiter-9 for portrait photography.
