At first glance, Hits Zone 2000 may seem like another generic compilation of chart hits, but on closer inspection there is actually something quite different about the selection. There is no token rock track and no "can't leave the house without hearing it" super-smash as you would expect on the more established compilations. However, there is a really thoughtful running order. The first disc (with the odd exception) is pure sugar pop with Britney's "Born To Make You Happy", Backstreet Boys and a big dollop of Steps. Apart from the Vengaboys' effort, the second disc is hits from clubland, which just waver on the boundaries of popdom. It's great for a quick dance before going out, although you might want to skip the lovely yet slightly maudlin "Porcelain". Two great discs for different occasions.
