Description: This is a 26" tall and 41" high painting on ship's canvas on a wooden or ply wood backing. It is about 1" thick. The artist's name was W or W C Null and painted in 1945. The USS Whiteside (AKA-90) was named for Whiteside County, Illinois. It was an Andomedia- class attack cargo ship and was on active service for 13+ years. The keel was laid in 1944 and decommissioned in 1958. It saw active service in both World War II in the Pacific and in Korea during the Korean War. She saw action at Iwo Jima, Okinawa, Cebu and Luzon. Later she carried Marines to Pusan and later Inchon. After she was decommissioned, she was used as target practice and sunk in 1971.
