'Umbrellas' Signed by KATSUYUKI NISHIJIMA Japanese Original Woodblock Print 80's

Description: *Please note that I have four vintage Katsuyuki Nishijima woodblock prints listed on eBay right now. I am more than happy to combine shipping, so please check out the others I have available. Nishijima, Katsuyuki (1945 - Present) "Rainy Weather" or "After The Rain" (one of Katsuyuki's most sought after umbrella scenes) Original Woodblock Print obtained from Uchida's Hanga Art Gallery in Kyoto, Japan in the late 80's The information slip featuring some history on Nishijima-san is included, which was given to me when this print was originally purchased. STILL IN NEW CONDITION with strong and bright, bold colors, since it was never displayed or framed. It has been sitting forgotten in a flat file for decades. Rediscovered just last year, it was painfully obvious I no longer have any room to frame and display more art. My loss is your gain. Printed on excellent quality paper with the woodblock printing bleed-through visible underneath. Print is housed in a paper folder that doubles as a mat, protecting the artist's signature plus print title, also signed in pencil by the artist. The paper folder is meant to be temporary. If you choose to frame this wonderful piece, it should be matted so that the signature can be seen. The entire print with mat / folder measures 10 1/2" x 14". The print itself measures 10" x 13" with the actual image measuring 7 3/4" x 10 1/2", not including the border. Of course, you would mat larger than that to show the title and artist's signature. This print is no longer available from the artist, and is therefore only available on the secondary market. While looking at this print on the Internet, I noticed that more recent printings had slight differences, meaning some of the original blocks either wore down or broke and had to be replaced. Case in point, compare the ideogram (symbol) found on the white umbrella to others - it is much larger on this original 80's print than it is on more recent issues. Other details have been changed as well, such as the umbrellas themselves, shadows, and more. This is truly a 'vintage' offering! Interesting to note: I have seen the umbrellas in this print referred to as parasols, but it would seem that only umbrellas would be left outside so they could dry. Also, I have listed this as titled "Rainy Weather," but I have also seen this print sold as "Rainy Day" and "After The Rain," so I am unsure as to the actual title. To add extra confusion, using my translation app on the title written in pencil directly under the image, the English translation appears to be "Two Sunny." The 'sunny' part makes sense in that there is no rain or puddles seen in the image anywhere, so I suppose it's anyone's guess as to the *real* title. But there you have it - that's everything I know about the potential titles and subject matter of this print.
