Description: The River Styx, Ohio by Mary Oliver First edition, first printing in dust jacket New York: Harcourt Brace Jovanovich, [1972]. First edition. viii, 55 pp. Bound in publisher's green cloth, spine lettered in green. Very Near Fine with a little mottling to cloth, toning along edges, in an attractive example of the dust jacket, a little shelf worn, else Fine. The popular, acclaimed American poet's second collection, which is probably the hardest to come by of her major works; copies very uncommon in commerce. It's named after an actual town in northeast Ohio not far from where this cataloguer grew up. Postindustrial blight and swampy towns named after the river that skirts the land of Death in Greek mythology do little to sell the region to skeptics, but I will assert that it's a beautiful area anyway until the day I die.
