Mencken of The Smart Set, co-founder of The American Mercury, founder and editor of The American Spectator and later a columnist for The New York Journal-American. Also a famous ladies man Nathan had a decade long affair with actress and silent film star, Lillian Gish before finally marrying respected actress Julie Haydon in 1955. He died in 1958 aged 76.
