Photograph named “CUDDLED”, dated 1972 Taras Kuščynskyj was born on 25 May 1932. He was a leading Czech photographer specialising in advertising and portrait photography and nudes. He spent his early childhood in Carpathian Ruthenia, where his parents worked as teachers. At the beginning of the Second World War, his father left the family and Taras returned with his mother to Prague. He studied architecture at the Czech Technical University in Prague. After graduation in 1961, he worked as a designer. His first solo exhibition was held in Hořice in 1963. In 1966, he became an independent photographer. Taras Kuščynskyj exhibited not only at home but also abroad (1967 – Netherlands, 1971 – Austria, 1973 – Japan). His photographs concentrated on women. He was an outdoor photographer who refused artificial lighting and special equipment. He also photographed landscapes, especially mountains.
