T. Scott Sayre - California District Iron Workers Union Lithograph - Signed 1993

Description: This is a one-of-a-kind signed lithograph from T. Scott Sayre created specifically for the 40th anniversary of the District Council of Iron Workers of California and Vicinity. The image is copyrighted 1993. Six pinholes were created at some point, and there's some minor creasing but no rips/tears. T. Scott Sayre (American, b. 1954, d. 2018) was an artist, muralist, and sculptor from Clayton, California, who lived and worked in the San Francisco Bay Area. Sayres art career didnt initially follow the most logical path he was a railroad conductor for fourteen years and never received any formal art school training. But for four years, he worked as an apprentice under established muralist William Radley in San Francisco and found time to sit in on art history classes. These proved to be the most formative influence early on because they introduced him to what would be the central theme of his career: Through those art history classes I was exposed most importantly to the American artists of the 1930s and the W.P.A. (Works Progress Administration) artists who were tracing the background of American workers and the plight of the people. I thought if I could follow that tradition, I would be accepted as an artist. He did work for labor unions for many years, including the carpenters union in Seattle Washington, which houses a depiction of the history of labor. Other works include a historical mural created for The City of Cupertino in the foyer of the city hall and the Life of Jack London at the Jack London Square in Oakland. His work can be seen from Japan to Washington DC. The Plumbers Union has an original mural in their office in Sacramento. In 2003, Scott received the Master Muralist award from Precita Eyes. Scott Sayre was a gifted muralist and sculptor who is best known for his careful research, his use of Renaissance materials and processes to guarantee the longevity of his work, and for his ability to execute large projects uniting history and art. Mr. Sayre's most widely publicized work is a mural of the American Labor Movement, a forty-five feet long, ten feet tall panorama depicting organized labor from the Civil War to the present.
