This splendid blade retains nearly all of its original mirror bright polish after more than two centuries. The well forged pierced steel hilt is adorned with a finely filed crown and cross. Waisted, reeded horn grip remains in excellent condition. Globose steel pommel. Struck at forte with maker’s initials “W B” unknown. The pierced knuckle guard depicting a cross hilt sword with a flamberge blade. This remarkable survival retains its original leather scabbard with original chape and the locket with carrying ring and frog stud. Closely resembles 145.5 on page 110 in Swords & Blades of the American Revolution by George C. Neumann.
