Description: Here’s a lovely small porcelain vase in a hexagonal shape. On a bright shiny white background cobalt blue trims the opening and base. Fine delicate gold designs fall with swags from the rim and gold blossoms ring the columnar base above tiny embossed beads. Condition is very good with no chips, cracks, crazing or scratches. The rim has light wear to the gold but all the other gold decorations are free of wear. It stands 3 ¾” tall with a top diameter of 2 ¼” and bottom diameter of 1 ¾”. This refined beauty weighs just 2 ounces. Hamburg’s coat of arms appears on one side in yellow, orange and blue showing a shield surrounding a castle with three towers with stars and cross above it. Two lions standing on hind feet are on each side of the shield with a helmet and peacock feathers above. Below is the full official name of the city “FREIE UND HANSESTADT HAMBURG”. Translated to English means “FREE AND HANSEATIC CITY OF HAMBURG”. Hanseatic is defined as a medieval merchant trade association. A league of such was formed in the 12th century as protection against robbers during maritime trade. There is no backstamp. I estimate this was German produced in the mid-century based on the style the coat of arms. Thanks for looking.
