Description: Seneca Glass was the last of the great American glass makers closing their doors in Morgantown, West Virginia in the 1970's. I was a sales representative and purchased a selection of their crystal stemware and hollowware prior to their closing. They were the only domestic company that created a handblown drawn stemmed drinkware in 24% lead crystal. They were recognized as superior to Waterford, however did not have the Waterford status that many brides wanted. They were the only domestic company that created a drawn stem, meaning that the stem of the goblet was pulled or 'drawn' from the bowl making a single piece and requiring more artistry and skill. The 'foot' was added by hand and the piece moved to the hand-cutting operation. Following the intricate hand-cutting of each piece, the final touch was adding the gold banding. Each piece is carefully inspected and if not highest quality, the finished glass was thrown into a glass bin to start the process again. In the mid 70's the Gold Brocade pattern was their finest work and most expensive, selling for $35-40 each stem, regardless of size. I may have used a few stems for entertaining but the bulk are new, many with original stickers. I have the following stemmed pieces, 17 water, 16 white wine, 16 sherbet and 10 stemmed cordials along with approximately 35 assorted Seneca barware, highballs, DOF etc. All are either lightly used or brand new. I am offering all pieces to a home or business that appreciate great American craftsmanship in lead crystal for $1000 or reasonable offer. Consider for an upcoming elegant wedding or an event or rental company. These are available for pickup in Louisville KY, and can be shipped but would at higher price.
