Description: + This is a rare Military Issue German 5-reichpfennig zinc coin, dated 1940-J minted in Hamberg Germany. These coins are called Reichskreditkassen, or they also are known as?center hole? coins. There were 2-denomation these coins, a 5-reichpfennig and a 10-reichpfennig coin. They were only minted for two years. In1940 and then a few in 1941 were minted. They were used only by the German armies marching through Europe, so their troops could pay for small items while on the march. In 1940 all 7-German mints were making some of these coins but by 1941 only two mints were making any at all. The example I have for sale is grade by ANACS as a MS-60. It is the real thing. It is in the older ANACS slab holder's. The zinc coins were cheap to make, because Germany needed nickel and other metals for their War effort they turn to using zinc, which they had also used in World War One. But zinc coins can over time get a white corrosion spots on them. This coin I have for sale has some of these spots. But most of the corrosion is on the number side of the coin. There is also what appears to be yellow dirt. The coin has not been clean and it must have come into the graders that way. The corrosion a common problem with zinc coins. This coin has some dirt or grime spots on the number side of the coin. Even with the corrosion and dirt spots ANACS graded the coin as a MS-60 that is because this is a sharp looking example of a Hamburg (J) minted coin. I have never come across a recorded of a mintage number of how many were made. This coin is well worth adding to any German coin WW-2 collection as a point of historical interest. Many of the military issue Third Reich coins were destroy, by the end of World War Two. These center hole coins did not have large number in circluation and are getting harder to find. This auction will be ending in about 5-days. I feel my price is more than fair for such a rare graded coin. I'm going to go a bit lower and bring the price down another $15.00 that would put the price at $565. That is as low as I can go and still have something left after ebay gets their fee, and shipping is still at no charge within the U.S. If you look at German coin sights, for a graded 1940-J, 5pfg. it is a bit higher price and many of their 1940-J are raw ungraded coins,so you can't always be sure it isn't a copy. Thanks for looking. Sorry, I will mail free only to a U.S.A. address. If you have a overseas address please contact me before bidding. I will try to work with you. +*= This coin has some dirt or grime spots on it, on the number side of the coin. Also on the date side of this coin there are some white corrosion spots.
