Description: ORIGINAL 1969 JACK LEVINE (1915-2010) 'ELECTION NIGHT' SIGNED LIMITED EDITION ETCHING, AQUATINT, DRYPOINT & MEZZOTINT FROM AN EDITION OF 120 PLUS PROOFS (PRESCOTT 55) This is a wonderful original. I havent owned too many Jack Levine prints over the years. Early in my career they came to market more often then they do these days. For those not familiar with the artist, I have included his biography below. These seems to be one of the artist's more important prints. In fact, the first place I found this print is in The Smithsonian Museum of American Art. This is a wonderful large image measuring 19 3/8 x 25 inches on complete original sheet measuring 25 7/8 x 31 3/4 inches. Signed lower right and numbered lower left below the image in pencil. A wonderful crisp rich impression. As you can see the margins show some consistent and inconsistent toning as well as a toning box from the original matte. There is one small issue within the image. In the upper left quadrant between the first 2 people on the left there is a small tear that is about 1 inch. It has been repaired verso with archival tape but you can still see it. If you brought this print to a restorer, it could be cleaned and that small tear repaired and you would have an outstanding example of this rare and important print. Print even has the ES blind stamp in the lower right margin from the printer, Emiliano Sorini. Really a wonderful original. Print is photographed in original matte but has been removed. It is stored in a tube and will be shipped that way. FREE SHIPPING ANYWHERE IN THE UNITED STATES! For those not familiar with the artist, his biography from a site that sells his work reads: "A painter and printmaker best known for political and social commentaries, Jack Levine drew inspiration from satirical German expressionist artists, such as George Grosz and Oskar Kokoscha, and took stylistic cues from the paintings of Titian, Diego Velázquez, and Francisco de Goya. Rejecting the formal qualities and ideologies of contemporary art movements, Levine caricatured 20th-century issues—inequality, big business, militarism, racism, political corruption, and human folly—to express disappointment in American culture. His painting Welcome Home (1946), which features an armchair general flanked by businessmen and socialites, was denounced by President Eisenhower and caught the attention of the House Un-American Activities Committee in 1959. During a trip to Europe after World War II, Levine was exposed to the mannerist style of El Greco, and he started creating figures with exaggerated, distorted, taffy-like faces to suggest the effects of excessive power.
