Description: Rare antique brass whaleman's plaque. This piece represents a copy of the Whaleman's Statue in New Bedford, MA that was erected in 1913. I have found bookends of the same subject made by Jennings Bros Foundry in CT but have been unable to find a plaque. There are no signatures or markings on the piece. It reads - A Dead Whale Or A Stove Boat. Very nice brass casting and quite heavy. Measures 14" tall, 14 1/2" wide including the harpoon and 1 3/4" thick at the thickest point.
