This is American made by the Bennington Pottery Company in Bennington, Vermont around 1850. The picture frame is nicely decorated with tortoise shell Rockingham glaze. This is oval measuring 11 ½” high by 10 ¼” wide. A photo of a similar picture frame is shown in “Bennington Pottery and Porcelain” by Richard Carter Barret on page 13. On the back you can see it has mounting holes and an old original label from an antique dealer in Bennington, VT. At 170+ years, the picture frame is in good condition with 3 lines in the glaze that don’t go through and no other damage or repairs. This is a very rare and early piece of Bennington pottery, highly desired and sought after by serious collectors.
