Description: Phoenix glass company of Philipsburg, Pennsylvania has come to be known as one of the finest art glass producers of the late 1800s here in North America. Their products are highly sought after and collected because of the striking beauty and originality of their items. The company produced an almost unlimited variety of water pitchers in a number of shapes as well as patterns. I strongly believe this smaller size pitcher to have originated from Phoenix for several reasons. The shape of the spout is common with the company as well as the cylindrical neck. I also believe the firm marketed ribbed ewers as well as multicolored stripe treatments. Soft pastel colors create an attractive item for display or use. A polished pontil visible on the bottom. On the smaller side, this item measures 6” tall to the top of the extended handle and 4 1/2” diameter across the broadest region of the body. After cleaning and inspection, I find no chips, cracks, damage or repairs. I see no heat checks or cracks in the handle or at points of attachment. The inside appears quite clean showing no staining from use. I will mention for accuracy several small interior bubbles visible in some of the ribs as well as a speck or two of ash embedded in the glass occurring during the production process. A very unique item, indeed. Please view all pictures as they are considered part of the description. Please check back to my listings often as I will be posting numerous fine examples of glass, pottery and porcelain in the near future. Thank you.
