Once a design was introduced, it was brought out for a limited time for the Easter Season. It returned the next season unless it was retired in place of a new design. In 1961, Bunny "A" was put on a die-cut stem. Die-cuts did not work out too well, so a new design was issued in 1962 (Bunny "B"). 1963 saw the introduction of the iconic "Fat Eared Bunny" (Bunny "C") which continued in many color variations for 26 years. The Easter line was expanded in 1976 with Chick in Egg and Lamb. Finally, in 1990, Bunny "D" replaced the Fat Eared Bunny and would, itself, continue on for 9 years, starting off on Austria stems, switching to Yugoslavia stems in 1991 and then to Slovenia stems in 1993. Chick in Egg had several modifications during that time, but the "Long Eared Bunny" continued until 1999, when Bunny "E" was introduced on a Pink Stem (Mr Bunny). Changes have been rapid since 1999. In 2000 a crystal Bunny appeared. A Mrs. Bunny joined the ranks on 2004. Mr Bunny was moved to a blue stem in 2008. Dylan's Candy used the Mr Bunny design (but with slightly different face) for a series in 2009. PEZ used the Dylan Chocolate Bunny that year but changed the face for the chocolate Bunny in 2010 switching to 2 front teeth and white whiskers so as to not be confused with the Dylan design. That chocolate bunny came out on two different color stems - Pink and Green. In 2013, a floppy eared Bunny was issued.Baby chicks have also been a perennial Easter theme, and PEZ first came out with one without a hat for it's introductory "seasonal" issue in 1970. They became a limited, but recurring issue. In 1976, when the new 3.9 stems came out, they modified the design by adding a hat to the chick. Starting in 1991, the chicks were made in Hungary on a new 4.9 stem, but keep the same design (at first). 1992 saw the first design modification in 15 years with the elimination of the pin that seemed to go through the egg. The edges of the egg were refined and made sharper and more even. In 1995, the egg was redone again to take away all the sharp edges. The design continued on until 2003 when a completely new Easter series was issued. Included in that series, for the first time, was an Easter Egg - made up like a little baby. In 2004, the Baby Egg was made on a 5.9 Hungary Stem. In 2012, a series of colored Easter Eggs was issued on a very limited distribution schedule - in other words, these are very hard to find. There is a Yellow Egg, a Pink Egg and a Blue Egg. This egg theme was expanded in 2014 with a green egg featuring a painted yellow chick. The traditional lamb did not get added to the series until 1976. They experimented with a lamb Merry Music Maker in 1980, but only for a year. Although new Easter characters were added in 1990, the lamb design stayed the same. In 1987, the Lamb was made in Yugoslavia on 3.9 Thin feet stems. In 1991 the 4.9 patent stem was used for the Lamb. The country name change to Slovenia saw the name on the stem change in 1994. There are two color variations: White Face and Ivory Face. In 1999, black pupils were added to the eyes. That design continued on until 2003 when a completely new Easter series was issued for the 2004 season. That Lamb had a slightly pinkish face and a light yellow tinge to the curls that only covered part of the head. It started on a 4.9 Hungary stem. By 2006, the Lamb was on 5.9 Hungary stem. In 2008, a new design changed the face and gave the lamb a full head of curls. In 1980 PEZ issued a series of Merry Music Makers (characters that doubled as whistles). In 1981, they added a Panda, Koala and an Owl. It proved to be very successful because of all the Panda publicity. In 1990 a new Panda was designed for Easter and came out on a 3.9 stem. Later that year the 4.9 patent was issued, so the 1991 edition changed to a 4.9 Czechoslovakia stem after starting out in Austria. A country name change to The Czech Republic occurred in 1993, which saw a stem name change in 1994. In 1998, the Panda got his ears rounded in a design modification as manufacturing went to Hungary. The Panda was dropped from the Easter series when the series was redone for 2003. A Yellow Rubber Duck was added to the series in 2009 and the duck changed to blue in 2016 when a series of mini characters were introduced in egg cases. Different versions of baby ducks, bunnies etc expand the series every year. in 2021, a four color set of the iconic PEEPS - those marshmellow treats that come out around Easter every year - was issued with Yellow, Blue, Pink, and Lavender.
