Description: Original MCM 1950s painting by Ozz Franca (1928-1991).This very early painting by Brazilian American artist Ozz Franca depicts a simple, stunning portrait of a young man looking straight at the viewer. We see no clothes to about his waist, perhaps he has just climbed out of the swimming pool where at age 15 he qualified for the Brazilian Olympic Swimming Team circa 1943. Those Olympic games were canceled due to World War II which led this young Brazilian from Sao Paolo more toward his other love; painting. Soon, Franca accepted a scholarship to university in Utah before moving to Hollywood, California where he went to work illustrating for Waly Disney Studios working there on Lady And The Tramp and 20,000 Leagues Under The Sea, etc. This particular early work catches the young precocious artist at his best ability.You will be hard put to find an earlier, more evocative, or simply better painting from Franca.This painting steps out artistically and successfully from the vast majority of Franca's work (sorry Ozz) as he had a tendency toward cliche doe eyed children, clowns, mid century cityscapes, Southwest American Indians, etc. The painting is gouache on thick paperboard and signed upper left.Spare in line and spare in color, essentially this Ozz Franca painting nails it!Painting on paperboard measures 20" by 16". Overall exterior frame measures 27 2/4" by 23 3/4". It is double matted under glass in a red oak frame. All the framing is original and all in very good original condition. Even the glass is original and has a lovely slight waviness to it. I took the painting apart, cleaned the glass, oiled the dry, slightly dirty oak frame and put it back together after the photos.No damage or negative condition issues. The paperboard is masking taped to the matting but is not glued down.Beautiful original condition.Private collections owning Franca's paintings include Jackie O, LBJ, Burt Lancaster, Ronald Reagan, Red Skelton, Frank Sinatra, John Wayne, Nelson Rockefeller, etc, etc. Carefully boxed and shipped.It makes us feel good to buy something of beauty and value.
