Description: An original color lithograph called The Patchwork Quilt. The artist was Joseph Walter West; the lithograph contains his unique monogram and the date 1895. The piece measures about 8" x 11 1/8". Written on the back, in pencil, are the words "Orig Lithograph - West". Two small pieces of ribbon adhere to the top margin; probably the piece was framed or tipped into a book before being removed. We think our father purchased this during one of his trips to England when he lived in Europe. Joseph Walter West (1860 - 1933) was a British artist whose works are held in several museums in the United Kingdom. A copy of this lithograph is in the collection of the National Library of Wellington, NZ. This lithograph would be a terrific gift for anyone who loves quilting -- or for an antiquarian who appreciates the drawing's evocation of the Victorian times in which it was created. Suitable for framing. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Our father was a bibliophile who collected rare books, letters, and ephemera for more than 60 years.
