Description: Original 1884 antique color lithographed map of Washington Territory, printed more than 140 years ago. This map has a handsome, decorative border and is attractively colored by county, with topography drawn in relief. Details include railroads, towns, county seats, Indian reservations, and natural features. The northeast corner of the state is occupied by an oversized Stevens County, which extends from the Idaho border to the Cascades and includes Moses Reservation. More formally known as the Columbia Reservation, the Moses Reservation was the focus of sporadic violence and a lobbying campaign just prior to when this map was printed, leading to the restoration of the reservation to public domain. The Moses Reservation was dissolved in 1884 and was formally opened to white settlement on May 1, 1886. Among the other named places and features are New Tacoma, Fort Simcoe, Colville Indian Reservation, Olympia, Cheney, Columbia River, Mount Rainier, Seattle, Port Townsend, Snoqualmie, Fort Okinakane, Lake Chelan, Oysterville, White River, Slaughter, Tumwater, and the Yakima Indian Reservation. The image area measures 24.7 x 33 cm [9¾" x 13"], and longitude is measured from Greenwich and Washington. Condition: This map is in excellent condition, bright and clean, with no marks, rips, or tears. Please see the scans and feel free to ask any questions. It is an original, authentic antique map, published by George F. Cram in 1884, not a reproduction or modern reprint, and it is fully guaranteed to be genuine. There's a map of Oregon on the reverse side, in similar style and format. Either side would make a very handsome display in your den or office. It would also make a perfect gift, and we'll include our helpful framing tips for your reference, along with a photocopy of the dated cover page from the book in which it was published.
