Acquired from the original owner by the current owner. Mario Carreño Morales, a painter, was born in Havana. He became a Chilean citizen in 1969. His extensive artistic career began in 1925 when he entered the San Alejandro Academy in Havana. In 1932, he traveled to Europe to continue his studies in Graphic Arts at the San Fernando School in Madrid. The outbreak of the Spanish Civil War forced him to leave Spain and continue his studies in Mexico, drawn to the muralist art that was developing there. He lived in France, the United States, and Cuba, places where he achieved success and artistic recognition as an oil painter, muralist, draftsman, printmaker, and an academic in important institutions. However, this period of his life was strongly marked by the different armed conflicts he witnessed in Europe and Latin America. Starting in 1952, he participated in numerous group exhibitions that showcased the growing strength of abstract representation in his painting. In 1953, he was included in the compilation "Contemporary Hispanic American Painters." He also participated in the II São Paulo Biennial. In 1982, now one of Chile's most representative painters and widely recognized in foreign art circles, Mario Carreño was awarded the National Art Prize. In 2013, the Mario Carreño Foundation was created, led by his daughters Mariana and Andrea Carreño. It was introduced during the Tribute to the 100th Anniversary of his Birth, which took place at the National Museum of Fine Arts. The Foundation seeks to organize, preserve, and protect his archives in order to ultimately promote the artist's work.MARIO CARREÑO. Grabado. Linóleo / Cartulina. Arte Cubano.
