Description: Look Homeward, Angel ~ Thomas Wolfe sub-titled: A Story of the Buried Life 1929 Hardcover Published by Grosset & Dunlap ISBN none This auction is for 2 exact same copies of the 1929 early edition (same year as the true First Edition), the only difference being their size - one is 5/16" taller & 1/8" wider. Otherwise, covers are the same exact red cloth, outside titling/font is exactly the same and interior is set up the same (pg numbers, chapter starts, etc). The same plates as the First Edition were used for this printing, as can be evidenced by the tiny broken lettering here & there. It also contains the 2 known textual errors of the true FE, namely - on page 308 the lower case "g" in the word "greek" should be capitalized (4th paragraph, 8th line), and page 506 has the "t" missing in the word "stationed" (3rd paragraph, 2nd line). These are 2 good reading/reference copies but without dust jackets. Both are prime candidates for easy restoration by non-pro book doctors. Condition: Book 1 Overall, in 'Fair' condition. The book is still quite sturdy, even tho some looseness to the spine, and book sits slightly askew. Covers are still firmly attached and there is no tearing/separation on the inside hinges. Outside, the covers are rubbed, stained and dirty. Corners are bumped, exposing the underlying boards a little bit. Spine is very soft at the bottom and very frayed & chipped at the top. Cover & spine lettering still stands out, easily readable.Outside text blocks show a dirty/faded look. Interior - is actually quite nice. Apart from tanning/fading to the interior edges pages there are no blemishes to speak of. Only a penciled in price on the first blank page. Otherwise, no other pen/pencil marks or highlighting, no tears/rips, no funny smell, no dog-eared corners, no loose pages. ************************* Condition: Book 2 Overall, in 'Good+' condition. Book 2 is very sturdy. Covers are still firmly attached and there is no tearing/separation on the inside hinges. Outside, the covers have a few minor scrapes/scuffs, while the back shows a mild ripple running from top to bottom. Corners are lightly bumped. Spine is very soft at the top & bottom. Cover & spine lettering are still bright & black, not rubbed or faded..Outside text blocks are a little dirty/faded looking. Interior - shows a little bit of foxing but only to a few pages, with pgs 3-6 being the worst, but not at all indicative of the the other foxing spots. There is tanning/fade to the interior pages but not too strong. The only blemish being a previous owners name in ink on the first blank page. Otherwise, no other pen/pencil marks or highlighting, no tears/rips, no funny smell, no dog-eared corners, no loose pages. Please ask for any other descriptions, clarification or pictures.
