Description: BATTLE OF WATERLOO CHESSMENFULL SET OF 32 CHESSMEN (board not included) Napoleon Boneaparte vs. the Duke of Wellington, June 18th, 1815 HAND CRAFTED & FINISHED IN MAPLE & ANTIQUED WHITE KING = 4½ INCHES These figures are thoughtfully chosen and detailed to represent the personalities and forces at war on that fateful day in 1815. Napoleon, Emperor of Europe, stands as king of the French side, with his Empress Josephine at his side. They are flanked by officers of the Old Guard and the Chasseur, as bishops. Two soldiers of the cavalry stand as knights, and cannons with actual printed flags of stiff paper are the rooks. The Duke of Wellington stands across the board commanding the Allies, alongside his modest Duchess. They are flanked by officers of their army, a Life Guard and a Royal Scots Grey. (The elite Scots Greys later incorporated the name "Waterloo" into their official badge - proud of their performance on this day.) The knights and rooks show authentic cavalry, cannons and flags of their time. The pawns are very well detailed representatives of the two sides: The magnificent tufted hat representing the French Old Guard; and soldiers the Kings German Legion allied with Wellington. FULL SET OF 32 HAND MADE CHESSMEN The little emperor here stands 4½ inches tall, with a 1½ inch base. It is recommended that these chessmen be played on a board of about 2 to 2¼ inch squares. (Note, chessboard not included. See our other listings for great boards.) INDIVIDUALLY CRAFTED WITH THE GREATEST CARE These chessmen are made entirely by hand, individually molded and finished, giving them a care and quality unattainable in factory-produced chessmen. They are made of Hydro-Stone - the best casting material for figurines and chessmen, permeated with fiber reinforcement.
