Description: This is a rare single page advertising handbill (flyer) promoting the one-night, MONSTER ANNUAL BENEFIT for the N.V.A. at the Metropolitan Opera House in New York City on May 3rd, 1925. (National Vaudeville Artists Night was celebrated in five New York theaters with benefits staged at the Hippodrome, the Manhattan Opera House, the New Amsterdam Theatre, the Metropolitan Opera House and the Knickerbocker Theatre.) ..... An average of forty acts were offered at each theater, headed by GEORGE M. COHAN who made appearances on all five stages. PAUL WHITEMAN and his Orchestra made their first New York appearance after their successful transcontinental tour. Among the other Broadway and Vaudeville artists participating included LAURETTE TAYLOR, RAYMOND HITCHCOCK, FANNIE BRICE, WILL ROGERS, W. C. FIELDS, FRITZI SCHEFF, GRACE MOORE, WILLIE HOWARD, EDDIE CANTOR, LEON ERROL, JOHNNY DOOLEY, CLARK and McCULLOUGH, WILL MAHONEY, WEBER and FIELDS, NORA BAYES, MARIE CAHILL, BLOSSOM SEELEY, SOPHIE TUCKER, VAN and SCHENCK, FOWLER and TAMARA, FLORENCE MILLS, a chorus from the "ZIEGFELD FOLLIES" and ALBERTINA RASCH's BALLET of Twenty-Five. DETAILS: Handbills and heralds were often distributed or inserted into the playbills of other productions to help generate ticket sales for upcoming shows and events. This single page, one sided handbill measures 5 5/8" X 8 1/2" inches and includes a wonderful illustration of Whiteman, performance date, promotional text and ticket prices on the front. The backside is blank ..... CONDITION: With the exception of light edge wear, this rare flyer is in excellent condition and will make a wonderful addition to the collection of any musical theatre aficionado or music historian. This item will be carefully packaged in a protective, carded sleeve and backed by stiff cardboard.
