Clearly Kim Stanley Robinson is one of the best, most famous, most important, and most collectible science fiction writers in the world. From the dust jacket of RED MARS: “ . . . In his most ambitious project to date, award-winning author Kim Stanley Robinson utilizes years of research and cutting-edge science in the first of three novels that will chronicle the colonization of Mars . . . RED MARS . . . For eons, sandstorms have swept the barren, desolate landscape of the red planet. For centuries, Mars has beckoned to mankind to come and conquer its hostile climate. Now, in the year 2026, a group of one hundred colonists is about to fulfill that destiny . . . [the] ultimate goal is the terraforming of Mars. For some, Mars will become a passion driving them to daring acts of courage and madness; for others it offers an opportunity to strip the planet of its riches. And for the genetic 'alchemists,' Mars presents a chance to create a biomedical miracle, a breakthrough that could change all we know about life . . . and death . . . The colonists place giant satellite mirrors in Martian orbit to reflect light to the planet's surface. Black dust sprinkled on the polar caps will capture warmth and melt the ice. And massive tunnels, kilometers in depth, will be drilled into the Martian mantle to create stupendous vents of hot gases. Against this backdrop of epic upheaval, rivalries, loves, and friendships will form and fall to pieces -- for there are those who will fight to the death to prevent Mars from ever being changed . . . Brilliantly imagined, breathtaking in scope and ingenuity, RED MARS is an epic scientific saga, chronicling the next step in human evolution . . . RED MARS shows us a future that awes with complexity and inspires . . . " From the rear panel of the dust jacket: "THE BEST TALE OF SPACE COLONIZATION . . . BY ONE OF THE BEST WRITERS OF OUR TIME." -- David Brin "A SPLENDID BOOK. THE SCIENTIFIC BACKGROUND AND TECHNOLOGICAL DETAILS ARE UTTERLY CONVINCING . . ., GIVES A SENSE OF TIME PASSING AND HISTORY HAPPENING . . . " -- Poul Anderson "RED MARS IS A HUGE, ENGAGING NOVEL . . . [A] COMPELLING VISION OF A VERY PLAUSIBLE SCENARIO FOR MARTIAN COLONIZATION . . . FASCINATING . . . " -- Gentry Lee, director of mission planning for Viking mission to Mars and co-author of THE GARDEN OF RAMA "AS FULLY-IMAGINED A SCIENCE FICTION NOVEL AS ANY I CAN THINK OF." -- Russell Letson, Locus "IF YOU'RE LOOKING FOR A SCIENTIFICALLY SOPHISTICATED STORY, DEFTLY TOLD WITH ENORMITY AND GRACE, HERE IT IS." -- Gregory Benford From the front flap of the dust jacket of GREEN MARS: “ . . . Rave reviews for Kim Stanley Robinson's RED MARS . . . 'TREMENDOUS.' -- The Washington Post Book World . . . 'ABSORBING.' -- The New York Times Book Review . . . 'STUNNING. -- The Detroit Metro News . . . 'SWEEPING.' -- Newsday . . . " From the front flap of the dust jacket: " . . . RED MARS was a science fiction bestseller, a Hugo Award nominee for best novel, and a critical triumph. Thrilling readers with its drama, realism, and provocative ideas, RED MARS has become an instant classic of the genre. Now Kim Stanley Robinson returns with the eagerly awaited second novel in his epic saga of the colonization of Mars, a thrilling and timeless tale of humanity struggling to survive at its farthest frontier . . . GREEN MARS . . . Nearly a generation has passed since the first pioneers landed, but the transformation of Mars to an Earth-like planet haw just begun . . . their plan to transform of Mars is opposed by those determined to preserve the hostile and barren beauty of Mars . . . passions, rivalries, and friendships will explode . . . A novel of breathtaking scope and imagination, of lyric intensity and social resonance . . . Kim Stanley Robinson create[s] a prophetic vision of where humanity is headed . . . " From the rear panel of the dust jacket: Rave reviews for RED MARS "A HIGH-WATER MARK IN NOVELS OF EARTH EMIGRATION . . . A TREMENDOUS ACHIEVEMENT." -- The Washington Post Book World "PROMISES TO BECOME A CLASSIC . . . " -- St. Louis Post Dispatch "A STAGGERING BOOK . . . THE BEST NOVEL ON THE COLONIZATION OF MARS THAT HAS EVER BEEN WRITTEN . . . " -- Arthur C. Clarke "AN ENTHRALLING WORK . . . VAST AND COLORFUL . . . [RED MARS] IS A 'REAL' SCIENCE FICTION NOVEL . . . A WONDERFUL BOOK . . . " -- The Detroit Metro News 'NOT ONLY THE BEST SF NOVEL ABOUT MARS EVER WRITTEN, BUT ONE OF THE BEST NOVELS OF POLITICAL SCIENCE FICTION YET PUBLISHED . . . " -- Newsday From the dust jacket of BLUE MARS: “ . . . Rave reviews for Kim Stanley Robinson's GREEN MARS . . . WINNER OF THE 1994 HUGO AWARD FOR BEST NOVEL . . . 'BREATHTAKING.' -- Daily News of Los Angeles . . . 'YET ANOTHER MASTERPIECE.' -- Science Fiction Age . . . 'GRAND IN SCOPE.' -- The New York Times Book Review . . . Kim Stanley Robinsons enthralling Mars trilogy ranks with DUNE and the FOUNDATION trilogy as a classic of the genre. A bioecology visionary, Robinson has put humankind's dreams of colonizing space into tales so plausible and scientifically sound that they read like future history. Now BLUE MARS joins the critically acclaimed GREEN MARS, winner of the Hugo Award for Best Novel, and RED MARS, winner of the Nebula Award for Best Novel, to complete one of the greatest science fiction sagas ever written . . . BLUE MARS . . . The red planet is no more. Now green and verdant, covered by seas and settlements, Mars has been dramatically terraformed from a desert world into one where humans can flourish. All that remains is to finish creating a breathable atmosphere and an ecosystem full of wondrous genetically engineered Martian creatures . . . But as Mars reaches its final transformation, Earth is in peril. The Great Flood threatens an already overpopulated and polluted planet, and Mars faces a population explosion or an interplanetary war . . . the human drama at the center of this breathtaking epic explodes in political upheaval . . . BLUE MARS meshes high adventure with state-of-the-art science and provocative thoughts about the nature of man, politics, and war . . . engrossing reading . . . awesome speculation about our future . . . " From the rear panel of the dust jacket: THE HIGHEST PRAISE FOR GREEN MARS "THE TERM 'EPIC' HAS BEEN APPLIED SO OFTEN . . . THAT IT HAS NEARLY LOST ANY MEANING . . . BUT KIM STANLEY ROBINSON'S LATEST, GREEN MARS, EARNS THE APPELLATION AS FEW WORKS EVERY HAVE . . . DENSE . . . SHARP." -- The Washington Post Book World "GRAND IN SCOPE, METICULOUS IN DETAIL." -- The New York Times Book Review "HAS THE BREATHTAKING SCOPE, PLAUSIBLE SCIENCE AND INTELLECTUAL DARING THAT MADE RED MARS A HIT." -- Daily News of Los Angeles AND RED MARS "A HIGH-WATER MARK IN NOVELS OF EARTH EMIGRATION . . . A TREMENDOUS ACHIEVEMENT." -- The Washington Post Book World "AN ABSORBING NOVEL . . . SCIENTIFICALLY INFORMED IMAGINATION . . . " -- The New York Times Book Review "PROMISES TO BECOME A CLASSIC . . . SCIENCE FICTION IN THE BEST SENSE . . . " -- St. Louis Dispatch "A STAGGERING BOOK . . . THE BEST NOVEL ON THE COLONIZATION OF MARS THAT HAS EVER BEEN WRITTEN . . . " -- Arthur C. Clarke [the legendary science fiction grandmaster] ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ I grade books and dust jackets: fine, near fine, very good, good, fair, and poor. I describe all faults. If you sell books on EBAY (or anywhere else), it is de rigueur not to list 1st printings of book club books as 1st editions (unless they ARE the 1st edition, which occurs only occasionally); also, a 1st edition, 7th printing, is not a 1st edition. Ex-library books must be noted as such since generally they are of little value to the collector of 1st editions. Condition is also very important to those collectors. Books and dust jackets must be described in detail. In other words, it is incumbent upon the SELLER to know what is and is not a 1st edition. Mistakes can be made (and corrected), of course, but if you DON'T KNOW, don't try to sell a book as a 1st edition. ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ CONDITION: RED MARS is a FINE book in a FINE dust jacket. The book is tight and square in its black quarter cloth and red boards binding with bright red lettering on the spine of the book. There is no writing in the book (except for Kim Stanley Robinson’s autograph); no bookplates; no remainder marks. The dust jacket is not price-clipped and shows the correct price of $22.95. The dust jacket has no chips, no tears, and no wrinkles. The great and famous dust jacket artwork is by Don Dixon. GREEN MARS: a FINE book in a FINE dust jacket. The book is tight and square in its black quarter-cloth and black boards binding with bright green lettering on the spine of the book. There is no writing in the book (except for Kim Stanley Robinson’s autograph); no bookplates; no remainder marks. The dust jacket is not price-clipped and show the correct price of $22.95. The dust jacket has no chips, no tears, and no wrinkles. The great and famous dust jacket artwork is by DON DIXON. BLUE MARS: an ABOUT FINE book in an ABOUT FINE dust jacket. The book is tight and square in its blue and black boards binding with bright gilt lettering on the spine of the book. A MUST FOR THE COLLECTOR OF IMPORTANT MODERN SCIENCE FICTION 1st EDITIONS AND/OR THE COLLECTOR OF AWARD-WINNING SCIENCE FICTION 1st EDITIONS AND/OR THE COLLECTOR OF KIM STANLEY ROBINSON 1st EDITIONS! ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Additional photos are available upon request. I am continuing to list some of my best books (especially science fiction, fantasy, and horror 1st editions) on EBAY not so much as auctions (due to the fact that EBAY charges quite a bit to list items for reserve auctions), but more along the lines of listing my "catalogue" of books that I have for sale. I'm not going to "give" these books away, but my opening bids and Buy-It-Now prices are usually a fair amount below market value. Furthermore, however, for certain scarce books in great condition, I do expect to get close to what they're worth. Stay with me; I always have a number of important, collectible, cornerstone science fiction, fantasy, and horror 1st editions listed. Many thanks! All items are being offered for sale elsewhere; I reserve the right to end this listing early if this item sells elsewhere. __________________________________________________________________________________ Note: I own the following two books: Leckie, Anne. ANCILLARY JUSTICE. Subterranean Press, 2014. 1st limited edition. (#2/500). Leckie, Anne. ANCILLARY MERCY. Subterranean Press, 2016. 1st limited edition. (#2/500). I am looking for: Leckie, Anne. ANCILLARY SWORD. Subterranean Press, 2015. 1st limited edition. (#2/500). I would like to round out this set by acquiring the #2/500 copy of ANCILLARY SWORD. If anyone has this copy and is willing to sell it on EBAY, I would be highly interested in obtaining it so that all my copies would have matching numbers. Many thanks. __________________________________________________________________________________ Contact me if you're looking for a particular title or titles. I have thousands of books for sale that may or may not show up in my EBAY listings. I am happy to set up flexible PAYMENT and/or HOLD PLANS for any book(s) that you bid on and win.

Shipping: $4.00 for USPS Media Mail shipping. $10.00 for USPS Priority Mail shipping. Buyers who wish to have packages sent to addresses outside of the U.S. are required to pay for the postage necessary to send such packages. Please note: if you want something other than USPS Media Mail shipping, you must wait for me to send you an EBAY invoice or if you are a buyer outside of the United States, you must wait for me to send you an EBAY invoice. You must be willing to pay for non-USPS Media Mail shipping charges or for international shipping charges. I reserve the right to negate a purchase if you are unwilling to pay for the correct shipping charges either to an address in the U.S. or if international shipping is required. I am happy to set up flexible payment and layaway plans if these options make it easier for you to participate in bidding and winning. Please e-mail me if you have any questions. See my other auctions on EBAY for excellent science fiction, fantasy, and horror 1st editions (and a few other items). I specialize in science fiction, fantasy, and horror 1st editions: award winners, cornerstone books, and generally recognized important books in the genre(s). I GUARANTEE THE CONDITION OF THIS BOOK; IF YOU DON'T LIKE IT, SEND IT BACK! If you prefer payment methods other than PayPal (as I do), I am happy to arrange for a different payment method for you. Before you buy from others, check out their return policies and their guarantees and compare them to mine. I stand behind all of my items FULLY. Why deal with a seller who won't guarantee their books, doesn't have a return policy, or doesn't correctly describe the edition or condition of their book(s)?
