Description: Grand Duke of Tuscany JasmineSynonym:Nyctanthes sambacFamily: Oleaceae Genus: Jasminum Species: sambac Cultivar: Grand Duke of TuscanyTYPE/USES: shrub GROWTH RATE: Slow to Medium LIGHT REQUIREMENTS: full sun to filtered light WATER REQUIREMENTS: average, not total drought tolerant, plant in well drained soil FLOWERS: spring through summer ZONES: 10 to 11. The Grand Duke jasmine are quite large as jasmine flowers go, blooming up to 1 ½ inches in diameter. They may appear singly or in clusters from the leaf axis on new growth, and well grown plants are in bloom almost constantly. The plant itself is shrubby, a very slow-grower, and may be pruned to keep its form neat. It has the biggest flowers compare to all Jasmines and little camellia like shaped fragrant flowers. Excellent foliage of deep green ruffled leaves on strong rigidly erect canes; easily produces its typically solitary flower if provided richly fertilized warm soil, bright light and even levels of humidity. It has bushy growth habit; trim regularly to avoid leggedness. This variety is relatively shade tolerant, slow growing and compact, thus is good for potting and indoor culture. The Grand Duke prefers a warm locationAvoid chill to prevent flower bud drop., ample sunlight and rich, humus soil kept evenly moist. An occasional top-spraying will keep its waxy leaves glossy and will encourage new branching from its main stems.ONE OF MY PLANT IS IN BETWEEN BLOOM AND I HAVE BROUGHT THE PLANT INDOOR FOR WINTER. I TRIM THE PLANT TO CREATE NEW PLANTS AND GET MORE BLOOM FROM THE MOTHER PLANT. IT DOES BLOOM plenty INDOOR NEAR A SUNNY WINDOW during winter. I HAVE planted them with and with out ROOT STARTER HORMONE with plenty of success. YOU ARE BIDDING ON STEM CUTTING ABOUT 4.5" TALL TO START NEW PLANTS. You will get a total of 10+ stems cutting. You will receive mixture of softwood, semi hardwood and hardwood cuttings. It will be CUT FRESH from the mother plant on the day of shipment and wrapped in little MIRACLE GROW soil and wet towel.NOTE: These are STEM cuttings not rooted plants. It is your responsibility to grow roots on these stem cuttings to get a blooming plant. Just information only: I have successfully grown plants from stem cutting following these 5 steps. a) step1: As soon as you receive the cutting - cut 1/8" on bottom and let the stems stand in a tumbler half full of cold water for about 4hr to hydrate back.b) step2: Plant them (4 to 6 stems per pot) in a 5" to 6" pot in soil part miracle grow potting mix and part peat moss or perlite mixture, which should be moisten before inserting the stems (1.5" to 2" into soil) with ROOT STARTER hormone at the bottom tip about 1",TO PREVENT ROOT ROT.c) step3: outdoor: let them stay in a cool part shade dry place outdoor (northern exposure) and keep on checking regularly to make sure the container soil is not DRY OR TOO WET but stay moisten by watering occasionally Indoor: I usually keep the pot covered with plastic bag after blowing some air into it to keep the plants and pot floating inside bag. Let it stand in a partial sunny location near a window. The bag must be open EVEY WEEK and let plant air outside bag an hour and repacked in the plastic bag back. d) step4: They will root anywhere from 6 to 8 weeks and you can check this by gentle tug to each stem after 6 weeks and it should not move. If kept indoor discard plastic bag.e) step5: separate them to re pot the stem cuttings only when they have plenty of new leaves.Pic 1 - 9 shows the bloomsPic 10 shows the plant from which you will receive cuttings (will be added soon)The shipping weight is set to 1lb - USPS Ground Advantage As with any plant, please check with your local extension agency to determine whether the plant you are bidding on is invasive in your area, and therefore prohibited from being planted.
