Description: Houston Texas 1876 Gas Bill for Street Lights/Market House/City Hall that Burned This is a gas bill from the Houston Gas Light Company to the City of Houston, dated May 1, 1876. The city was charged a total of $688.30 for gas to 87 street lamps, a new lamp at the corner of LaBranch and McKinney, 5 new globes, 4 new burners, and gas for the Market House. The old Market House also served as City Hall. It burned down later that year. Hope it wasn't a bad gas lamp. Measures 8.25 by 7 inches. The photos show its condition accurately.
