A series of great early Hawaiian Recordings on 78 rpm recordsClick on this link to see more great Hawaiian and Pacific Island Records! Sol Ho'opi'i was born in Honolulu in 1902 and was the first of 21 children in his family. He was dubbed a musical genius at the age of 3. At the age of 17 he and his friends stowed away on a boat traveling to San Francisco. He played various nightclubs and recorded with fellow musician Lani McIntire in the group "Novelty Trio". Ho'opi'ii was dubbed "King of Steel Guitar" and "Fritz Kreisler of the Steel Guitar" and it was rumored that he played the first electric guitar on stage in front of an audience. Hollywood also played a role in his success. Known at the "Hollywood Hawaiian", he was often asked to play his music to help actresses prepare for an emotional scene. He had a complex style of music that other musicians tried to match, but his style was the most sophisticated in Hawaiian music.Sol Hoopii's Novelty Trio in one of their first mainland Los Angeles recordings for ColumbiaSol Hoopii - steel guitar Lani McIntire - guitar Glenwood Leslie - ukulele Wahine u'i Beautiful oneJames Kahale (composer)Ka-moae The Moae wind Soloman Hiram (composer) Sol Hoopii's Novelty Trio (Musical group) Listing for Sol Hoopii Trio.Sol Hoopii (leader) Sol Hoopii Trio (Musical group) Description: Instrumental trio, with male vocal solo (Hawaiian)4/16/1928 Los Angeles, California Columbia 1366-D Orig Issue Columbia Viva Tonal 10" 78 rpm CONDITION: GOOD PLUS, some greying, very rubbed, short radial lams cause rare occ ticks , plays surprisingly well VG+ very quiet w ticks and pops More Great Records on sale right now: CLICK ON THIS LINK TO SEE MORE GREAT RECORDS CLICK ON THIS LINK TO SEE ALL ITEMS - VINTAGE BOOKS, VICTROLA and TURNTABLE ITEMS, CDs, Books and DVDs http://shop.ebay.com/carsten_sf/m.html ==== A Quick NOTE ON GRADING AND SHIPPING: As you can see from my feedback, I try hard to earn your POSITIVE FEEDBACK and FIVE STAR RATINGS. If for any reason your transaction was NOT SATISFACTORY, pls contact me and I will work something out with you. YOU WILL NEVER HAVE A REASON TO GIVE ME A NEGATIVE RATING or a LOW STAR RATING. Quick note on grading: The Grade (Excellent to Poor, I don't give Mint) refers to the WEAR of the record. Any other defects are stated separately When I listen to a record, I may also give it an aural grade (again E to P), and make a SUBJECTIVE judgment of the pressing quality for hiss and surface noise."EXCEPTIONALLY QUIET" is close to noiseless, like a vinyl pressing."VERY QUIET" is an above average quiet record for a given pressing."Quiet" is a record that is a great example with some noise. These judgments are SUBJECTIVE and will depend one the styli, phonograph etc. you use on your own equipment. Multiple item shipping: I am happy to combine items for shipment in one parcel.
