In our location, they open as a deep, rich dark brown. As Spring progresses and temperatures rise, the coloration becomes an amber brown with hints of green. This recent division is of the cool climate variety, grown outdoors in the Coastal Region of Northern California. While we don't have the registered name of this Cymbidium sub-variety, we can tell you that it was first acquired in the early 1970's from Rod McLellan Nurseries. There is excellent information readily available regarding the care and propagation of this delightful orchid.
