Description: Friedrich Nietzsche, Musarionausgabe. 1922-29, first edition. Complete in 23 volumes, in the German. Limited edition of 1,500 volumes, this is number 838. Anyone familiar with books published in Germany during the '20s, during their years of economic hardship, will be astonished at the quality of materials used in this celebrated edition of Nietzsche's complete works. These are large, sturdy volumes with thick pages and wide margins. The philosopher and great Nietzsche translator Walter Kaufmann had the highest praise for the Musarion edition of Nietzsche's collected works, and used it as a reference in his citation of passages in his magisterial study, Nietzsche: Philosopher, Psychologist, Antichrist. Condition: Very Good, all volumes complete with strong hinges and labels intact. These are not ex-library, and I can find no markings of any kind on the pastedowns, ffeps, or text. Wear to bindings, with some having rips and tears to head of spine, scuffing to front and rear boards that are significant in some cases (see scans), but the integrity of these large, heavy volumes is quite strong and exemplary. All the plates are present and intact, and there is even a bit of ephemera thrown in (see scans). Shipping in US only includes insurance.
