An exceptional example. This 1792 Fifty (50) Livres (Cinquante Livres) banknote from Revolutionary-era France is certified by PCGS at Choice New 63; it is nominally dated on its face at December 14, 1792, and as such it is now ~232 years old. Nonetheless, this 50 Livres note is Crisp and Uncirculated, with gorgeous embossing of the seal and clear, clean white paper. This note bears the engraved signature of Develle, and is catalogued as Lafaurie: 164. An outstanding example of this centuries old high-denomination French Revolution banknote. 50 Livres after all was representative of 50 pounds of silver, equivalent to 729 Troy Ounces of silver. A very high denomination banknote. It is unusual to find certified examples of these notes, and nearly all existing examples of these 1792-era notes are very deteriorated.
