Description: Fighting for Faith and Nation - Dialogues with Sikh Militants by Cynthia Keppley Mahmood Published by the University of Pennsylvania Press in 1996. This is a first edition, used soft cover book in "like new" condition Size: 9" x 5.5". Pages: 314 Cynthia Mahmood presents a collection interview from Sikh militants, activists and freedom fighters in the post 1984 era in Punjab. "Listening to the voices of people how experience political violence - either as victims or as perpetrators - gives new insights into both the sources of violent conflict and the potential for its resolution" is written on the back cover as a descriptive for this book. While that may be true for some, that is not the insights I got from Ms. Mahmood's book. Instead, I found her interviews raw and honest, glaring with plain brutality that confronted the SIkhs of Punjab in the 80's and 90's. She works hard to try and stay uninvolved in her research subjects, and objective in her assessment - but to her credit as a human being she succeeds at neither. This is, after all, a tough, tough subject. I applaud her courage, and I am grateful to have these interviews documented for future generation.
