Description: Fidel Castro Signed MS Berlin ("Norddeutscher Lloyd Bremen" / "North German Lloyd") Cruise Ship dinner menu, Feb 28, 1959 It was here that Fidel met his future German mistress, Marita Lorenz, on the MS Berlin. She would later be infamously involved in an assassination attempt on Castro's life. Her father was the captain of the ship, and Castro immediately began taking a liking to her. This was about 8 weeks after the conclusion of the Revolution. Lorenz would later accept a deal from the USA to partake in an assassination attempt. She backed out at the last minute. According to Lorenz, Castro figured out her plan and offered her his own weapon to use on him in taunting fashion. “I can’t do it, Fidel,” she told him. The story of Castro and Lorenz has been depicted in numerous articles and books. A few years ago, it was reported that she would be played by Jennifer Lawrence in the upcoming biographical film "Marita," which was meant to be based on Lorenz's memoir, "Marita: The Spy Who Loved Castro." Two recent photo prints of Castro and Lorenz on-board the cruise ship together are shown and will be included. A print out of an article documenting the date of their original meeting (matching the date on the menu) will also be included. This is one of Castro's earliest known signatures. The menu has regular signs of age-related wear, including toning, minor folds/tears/imperfections particularly along the borders. Fully authenticated by PSA DNA
