Inscription at bottom reads: "View of Endeavour River, on the Coast of New Holland, where Captain Cook had the ship laid on shore in order to repair the damage she received on the Rock" and at right corner it is signed within the plate "Rennoldson sculp." Captain Cook having been shipwrecked in his voyage round the world has the Endeavour repaired in a harbour on one of the Hope Islands, c.1786 (engraving) (add.info.: engraved by Martin Rennoldson, published by Alexander Hogg. Endeavour beached at Endeavour River, New Holland, for repairs, after her grounding on the Great Barrier Reef in 1770 during Captain Cooks First Voyage 1768-1771).
