Even though they aren’t technically real points many sellers make note of the “10-5” and “I-U” on the copyright page (this copy has both of those present). “Stuart rose from the ditch, climbed into his car, and started up the road that led toward the north...As he peeked ahead into the great land that stretched before him, the way seemed long. But the sky was bright, and he somehow felt he was headed in the right direction.” The book is soiled and has some edge wear with nudges to the edges and tips. The boards are otherwise straight, the cover design and spine are bright and legible, and the binding is square and firm. Internally there are no markings but there is a crease to the middle of the first fifteen or so pages that was a publisher’s issue. The dust jacket is partially price clipped- by that we mean that it is clipped but you can still see the dollar sign and part of the “$2” price. The spine has some tanning and an abrasion and there is a shallow chip to the upper rear. All in all this is a very presentable and solid example of a book which has always been notoriously fragile due to the poor quality of war time materials that were used to produce it. White’s first children’s book. Interesting in that children’s literature is what he would be best remembered for with this title and Charlotte’s Web standing at the very top in rarified air. This was the loose basis for the chain of computer animated Stuart Little 1-3 movies from the turn of this last century which had Michael J Fox as the voice of Stuart.
