Description: Images one through three are of my stock specimen plant flowering in a California greenhouse. The plant for sale is a well-established division shown in the fourth and fifth images, mounted on a small virgin cork plaque. This is a select clone of a very nice, rare true blue-flowered miniature orchid species. Dendrobium parvulum ‘Violet Blue’, also known by its older name, D. delicatulum, is a miniature blue-flowered epiphytic orchid from Sulawesi discontinuously through to the island of New Guinea. While it is occasionally found in the foothills, it is normally considered an upper elevation cloud forest orchid. It may be grown in intermediate to cool temperatures, but tolerates warmer conditions well, although may be shy to bloom if not exposed to cool nights for at least a few months a year. Requires good quality water to thrive but otherwise is of easy culture and forms specimen plants in only a few years. Best grown mounted but I have also successfully grown this species in small clay pots on New Zealand sphagnum moss. All plants offered are greenhouse grown on benches in the San Francisco Bay Area, California.
