Then lower on the body: J.A. Lomax, / 14, 16, & 18 / Charles Place / Chicago. Then near heel on the reverse side: This Bottle / Must Be Returned. Nice early piece from the 1880's. Always popular with collectors. Has stripes of Blue Wash down both sides of the neck of the bottle, see photos above. This one was made by the Merrill Pottery of Akron and Middlebury, Ohio as is evidenced by their standard swirl type pattern molded into the base of the bottle. Edwin H. and Calvin J. Merrill established this pottery in 1847 in Middlebury, Ohio.
