Description: A Charming Hand Painted Sceaux Faience Tea Canister In vibrant polychrome colours. Depicted are what may be a young courting couple - portrayed individually in theirsmart 18th century attire in bucolic landscapes framed within leaf and flower edged round cartouches.The colours are fresh and naturalistic. A plate with a very similar leaf-framed cartouche design can be found in the collection of the Met.They estimate the date at around 1766-1768 The sides and neck have been decorated with beautiful poesies of stylized flowers and all the corners sprigged with a tiny leaf motif. Such an item may have been intended as a gift or love token. Signed "S.P." in underglaze blue on the base. The condition is excellent. Just one small glaze chip to one bottom corner.No other chips of cracks. No lid. Approximate Dimensions: height 13.5cm (5⅓") x 7.5cm (3") x 7.5cm (3") Always packed with care.
