The blade of the knife is the result of many hours of forging. Few manufacturers are able to obtain such a pattern on the layers flowing all the way to the edge of the blade - this creates a saw blade effect at a microscopic level which allows the blade to retain its cutting properties for a long time without the need for sharpening, while other blades dull.
