Description: This 1984 promotional issue stereo album in the Masterworks Digital series from CBS Records (IM 39024) features performances of two Beethoven works: Sonata No. 3 for cello & piano in A Major, Op. 69 and Sonata No. 5 for cello and piano in D Major, Op. 102, No. 2. Both are performed by Emanuel Ax (piano) and Yo-Yo Ma (cello). Album notes are in English (uncredited), German (translated by Dr. Wolfgang Steuhl) and French (translated by Eliane (sp?) Martin Jacques). Also included is a large (album-sized) 1981 insert biographical sheet on Yo-Yo Ma in English, French and German, plus two photocopies of magazine articles on the musicians and the album from the June, 1984 edition of Gramophone and the October, 1984 edition of High Fidelity. The outer sleeve shows a small price tag near the upper right corner of the front (see Photo 1), and a small collection index sticker in the upper right corner of the back (Photo 2), underneath of which is a metallic "FOR PROMOTION ONLY" stamping. This is one of many titles from an extensive collection of classical LPs and CDs that we will be listing here. All have been carefully stored for many years, played only on premium equipment, and show little to no wear.
