Barlow Nantucket Basket Sailing USS Constitution Scrimshaw-Boston Museum of Art

Description: This Vintage Barlow Nantucket Basket is a unique piece that showcases the patriotic theme of the United States USS Constitution at sail. Polymer scrimshaw * oval recreated from a portrait of Old Ironside based on a 19th Century Print NLM #40277. It features a basket blue fabric liner with a purse style and an asymmetrical shape. The basket is made of wood, bakelite or bone (the insert piece of closure is missing), with leather loop closure. The leather loop fits nicely over the bone piece. The basket comes with a hook and loop closure type (see missing insert) and weighs 1.2 lb. It is suitable for display decor and has a size of 11.5" in length, 12.5" with the handle, and 6.5" in base height. The interior measures 8" x 5.75" with 4.75" depth. The basket is handmade finish of basketweave and scrimshaw design on top of Old Ironside under Sail the USS Constitution. This limited edition basket is a perfect addition to any room and a must-have for collectors of decorative collectibles. Then previous mention of missing piece that was inserted ivory bone into the loop of bone. Final photo show very tiny piece of fabric approx .125" at rim pulled away from basket.
