Description: The Ball Railroad Pocket Watch earned its legendary reputation as the timepiece that revolutionized railway safety for millions of Americans. Webb C. Ball collaborated with leading American watchmakers, commissioning and rebranding their work to meet his rigorous standards for durability, reliability, and precision. Ball watches were available in two primary grades: the Official Standard Pocket Watch and the Official Railroad Standard. The latter, approved for use by railway workers on America’s growing transportation network, is distinguished by its signature interlinked “RR” shield at the top of the dial. This particular Ball Waltham pocket watch is a sought-after Model 1899, dating to approximately 1904-1907—the height of the Ball Watch era. Featuring 17 jewels, it is a working-class masterpiece with Ball’s patented ornate enamel dial. This 16s watch measures 50mm with its gold-filled case and weighs 93 grams. Light wear is visible, as shown in photos. **However, upon being wound, the watch does not currently work and the crystal cover for the face is missing. Price point reflects this. This is an is-is purchase. This watch has been passed down through my family. I have taken care of the watch to the best of my ability and researched it extensively, but I am not an expert and I have not had the watch serviced.**
