It was designed and sculpted by Wojciech Pietranik. In 2001, Australia released a series of coins to commemorate the Centenary of Federation. There were nine different designs for twenty cent coins and ten different designs for fifty cent coins which marked the occasion - one each for the six states (New South Wales, Queensland, South Australia, Tasmania, Victoria and Western Australia), the two territories (Australian Capital Territory and Northern Territory) and for Norfolk Island, plus a common "Australia" fifty cent design. There was only one $1 coin though. No regular (Mob of Roos) one dollar coins were released in 2001. The reverse features a ribbon arranged like a simplified map of Australia, and a Federation Star. Around above, CENTENARY OF FEDERATION; divided by the ribbon are the dates 1901 and 2001; around below, the value and denomination ONE DOLLAR. The obverse shows the crowned mature head of Queen Elizabeth II facing right (her effigy known as the "Fourth Portrait"). The Queen wears the "Girls of Great Britain and Ireland" diamond tiara, a wedding gift from Queen Mary (Her Majesty's grandmother) in 1947 - which she also has on the Machin and the Gottwald portraits. In small letters below the head, the artist's initials IRB (for Ian Rank-Broadley). Around the effigy is the monarch's legend and the date: ELIZABETH II AUSTRALIA 2001. Coin 4 - 2005 60th Anniversary of the End of World War II - 1 Dollar Coin A Coin commemorating the 60th anniversary of the end of World War II [WW II]. The design was inspired by a newsreel image of a celebrating man hence is also known as the "Dancing Man". One of the most famous 'clips' of all time used in many documentaries. On the 14th August 1945 Japan accepted the allied demands for surrender marking the end of World War II. The following day it was announced in Australia sparking feelings of joy and relief from all Australians. VP Day (Victory in the Pacific Day) was reported in all the papers and the Australian government gazetted it a public holiday. USA and New Zealand preferred the term VJ Day (Victory over Japan Day) and named it as such.On VP Day August 15th 1945 the celebrations were rife. In the streets of Sydney a man was caught on motion picture film dancing in celebration. This film and the "dancing man" has taken on iconic status in symbolising the victory of WW II.2005 marked the 60th anniversary of VP Day and the RAM released a circulation one dollar coin depicting "Peace" and the image of the iconic dancing man. In a media release the RAM said the gentleman depicted was one Ern Hill, a retired electrician but there is much conjecture over this. There is more evidence that it is in fact Frank McAlary QC. Both these men and others claim to be the famous dancing man caught on camera dancing down Elizabeth Street on that day. The reverse shows a celebrating man waving his hat in the air, the denomination 1 DOLLAR between the figure and its shadow below. Around above, WORLD WAR 1939 - 1945 PEACE. Designers initials WP in tiny letters under the right foot of the figure. In tiny letters below the head, the artist's initials IRB (for Ian Rank-Broadley). Around, the monarch's legend and the date of issue: ELIZABETH II AUSTRALIA 2005 Coin 5 2007 APEC Australia 2007 - 1 Dollar Coin This coin coin commemorates Australia's hosting of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation Forum (APEC) in Sydney. The APEC Australia logo is a star formed by 21 elements to represent the number of countries participating in the forum. Coins issued in 2007 have now been in circulation for 16 years. The reverse of the coin features the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation Forum (APEC) logo consisting of three concentric 7-pointed stars (formed of boomerangs) representing the number of countries participating in the forum. Around above, APEC AUSTRALIA 2007; around below, the denomination ONE DOLLAR. The obverse shows the crowned mature head of Queen Elizabeth II facing right (her effigy known as the "Fourth Portrait"), explained above. In small letters below the head, the artist's initials IRB (for Ian Rank-Broadley). Around the effigy is the monarch's legend and the date: ELIZABETH II AUSTRALIA 2007. Coin 6 - 2009 Centenary of Aged Pension - 1 Dollar Coin This coin marks 100 years since the introduction of the age pension in Australia. In 1908 the government's Invalid and Old Aged Pension Act was introduced. This landmark legislation placed Australia at the forefront of social policy reform. It remains a constant and symbolic commitment to the welfare of others. In 1909 the age pension provided 65,500 aged pensioners with 10 shillings a week. It now supports more than 2 million ageing Australians. Coins issued in 2009 have now been in circulation for 14 years. The reverse of the coin depicts a number of sitting or standing human figures of various ages. Around above, the inscription CENTENARY OF COMMONWEALTH AGED PENSION Around below, SECURITY · SUPPORT · DIGNITY. In the field under the figures, the denomination 1 DOLLAR. Around the effigy is the monarch's legend and the date: ELIZABETH II AUSTRALIA 2009. Coin 7 2020 Donation Dollar - 1 Dollar Coin The Donation Dollar was intended to be donated, thus encouraging the promotion of charity in Australia; on its release, it was advertised as the first such coin in the world. It is also Australia's first coloured circulating coin in the one dollar denomination - all earlier circulating coloured coins were $2. Additionally, it is the first circulating $1 where the denomination is on the obverse; such designs were only used on collector coins before. One dollar coins issued in 2020 have now been in circulation for only three years. The reverse of the coin has several concentric lines at its centre. From a central small circle, a number of green sectors radiate out over these concentric lines. Around above, the inscription DONATION DOLLAR. In smaller letters around below, GIVE TO HELP OTHERS. The value and denomination are on the obverse. The obverse of the coin depicts the crowned old bust of Queen Elizabeth II facing right, wearing the Royal Diamond Diadem crown worn for her Coronation (effigy known as the "Fifth Portrait" worldwide but "Sixth Portrait" in Australia, where the Queen's portrait by Vladimir Gottwald was fifth). The Queen also wears the Coronation Necklace; originally made for Queen Victoria in 1858, it was also worn at the coronations (as Queen's Consort) of Queen Alexandra in 1902, Queen Mary in 1911 and Queen Elizabeth (the Queen mother) in 1937. Unlike on British coinage, the effigy is "uncouped" (includes the Queen's shoulders) and extends almost to the rim of the coin; consequently, the legend does not run continuously around the rim. The artist's initials JC (for Jody Clark) are in tiny letters below left. Around the effigy is the monarch's legend and the date: ELIZABETH II · AUSTRALIA 2020 · 1 DOLLAR ·.
