Antique 1912 Gorham Sterling Silver Tape Measure Sewing Tool Signed Novelty. Description: This lovely set of three sterling silver bodkins are signed with the Gorham mark and likely date from the 1910s. Bodkins, also called Ribbon Threaders, are used to feed ribbon or cord through seams or holes in sewing and needlework. These pieces are beautifully designed. The two larger bodkins have a 3-cloved "heart" or "spade" shaped hole at the top where you would feed the cording, and the ribbon holder section has a cut-out design with a striking silhouette. Not only are they lovely to look at, they're also quite functional; the narrowing shape of the cord hole would cause a knotted cord to remain in the hole, and the ribbon holder section has ridged teeth to keep the ribbon from slipping. The third bodkin is useful for feeding thin ribbon or cording through a very narrow seam; this bodkin, while not as pretty, has good weight and a slightly rounded form to it (not just flat). From a very collectible antique silver maker, and a sweet little addition to your sewing, ribbon bodkin or sterling Edwardian novelty collection! Condition: In very good used antique condition. There's some very light age- and use-appropriate surface wear which really is much more noticeable in these closeup photos than in person. You might choose to polish them up a bit, or leave as they are (See Photos). Size: Approx. 2 5/8" to 2 3/4" L. Shipping Cost: $7.00 (U.S. Only). IMPORTANT!
